Ye, because they were the aggressors, but after some miles both sides started to dig in and it became a trench war and war of attrition. It's called dolchstoßlegende for a reason. Germany had no resources left in the end jfl.

They couldn't, Germans thought war would be over when they got France. Their industrial production was not on the level of Russia and United States, Kriegsmarine was inferior to Royal Navy so they were blockaded, their oil was scarce and they could fuel their war machine only trough invading more of countries and taking their resources, German command expected to beat Russia like they did France, by taking them off guard and taking Moscow, but Russia is vast and despite the hard losses in beginning they had months to reorganize, replace men and send whole industry in East, even if Moscow fell Russia wouldn't capitulate because war was basically life or death to them since Hitler wasn't very keen of Slavs, They could have used millions of Russian soldiers they captured in first months but they let them die in concentration camps because they were deemed as subhuman.

Winning ww1 is simple: push on the russian front and hold the line at alsace lorraine, a defensive posture freeing up manpower for the east and no invasion of belgium triggering british entry. With neither britain nor the usa (due to no submarine warfare against the uk) drawn into the war, the fall of russia would leave france on its own. Italy could be bribed more to keep it out of the war. With france alone against the rest of europe and the superior germany navy blickading them eventually total victory could be achieved.

They were very close to taking Paris in 1914, France by that point would either capitulate, try to retake Paris with last counter-attack due to stretched German logistics or continue holding on if they failed despite losing whole Northern France in hope that Russia will rescue them from dire situation which would be nearly impossible after Gorlice-Tarnow offensive. If they got rid of France in 1914 or 1915 and closed the Western front, USA would continue being neutral, Italy who had alliance with Germany and Austro-Hungary would probably respect it joining Central Powers and Germany could have sent all their troops on Eastern Front which was their plan in reality after beating France, and as we saw they won it in 1918 by making big territorial gains and funding communists within to destroy Russia. But considering that funding communists was only a plan B due to being stuck on Western Front for years, they would swoop trough Eastern Front despite even UK trying to help Russia in every single way because Russians simply weren't modernized enough compared to Germans, so Germany and Russia would make a peace treaty, Germany and Austria-Hungary would get territorial gains on East, Russia would probably transform into a republic. UK would have to accept German hegemony over Europe so they could save their colonies, Russia and France would need to pay reparations and France would also have to hand some of colonies to Germany. Austro-Hungary, Italy and Bulgaria would get some territorial gains from Balkans, Ottoman Empire would get territorial gains from Caucasus.

The fact that the U.S. got involved indicates that Germany could have won. Woodrow Wilson was a major Anglophile and his 'History of the American People' basically paints the U.S. as an manifestation of British and French enlightenment ideals. That's why he felt a "moral" motivation to "make the world safe for democracy."
Only if the British Empire (and through it, United States) remained neutral, and preferably friendly. British naval blockade decimated German industry. Germany and the Central Powers relied heavily on imports to feed their population and supply their war industry and ultimately the British naval blockade starved Germany and the Central Powers into defeat in 1918.
If America hadn't gotten involved then the war could of continued on as a stalemate. In which Germany might of gotten a better armistice deal, apart from that I can't really see a scenario better for them. Stuck in a war of attrition against the British empire and France. With inadequate allies in the hapsburg empire was only gonna result in defeat.

There's a recording out there of Hitler talking to some general admitting that fighting the war on two fronts was a mistake but that at the time he had no choice.
I would argue Germany just had no chance and that a more capable leader wouldn't have helped their situation all that much. Japan is probably what doomed them with their ill conceived attack on America which dragged the latter into the war, all though in retrospective the attack on Pearl Harbor just kinda seems a bit too "convenient" to me.
