IMO it all goes together. China is trying to militarily build itself up and like the US it is doing this by cutting off copes that would otherwise allow young males to relax and not build up tension.
So seems like western media might be blowing this out of proportion. It's not like western countries don't do this either. Don't let the lgbt pride parades fool you. Western governments are still very interested in restricting copes and having a healthy and fit army (though they do this through more subtle initiatives like introducing more "nutritious" school lunch programs and mandating PE even for framelet truecels).
