Does anyone actually find chess fun? My brain is too fried by modern gaming and social media to look at 64 squares and not fall asleep

This shit hasn't gotten a patch update since the it was invented in the middle ages, is it just a turbo autism litmus test?

I do, if you want, DM me if you want to add me.

It's fun but also can become depressing once you go on losing streaks.

im terrible at chess but i still find it entertaining sometimes

I'm hovering around 1900-2k elo at chess.com and I'd say there is 3 stages of fun in chess, first when you're just doing random nonsense at low elo, second when you're around 1000 thinking you're good, and third we're you actually learn theory and try to improve. It is fun in it's own way, really helped me during my school years when instead of just rotting alone I was playing forty blitz games in class

the only real way is to read books sadly, some videos on endgame pricniples and patterns may help but generally speaking only reading chess books will improve you as a player in a long run. Imo there's not as much impact from learning openenings as from learning endings principles and working on technique(both theory and just playtime). Chess is hella autistic thing so you have to be ready to do boring shit like reading books, learning patterns, etc. there are always talented chads that can easily reach up to like 2000-2100 without doing so lmao

It's fun until you want to go beyond 1400 elo. I just want to play funny gambits and play by intuition, so i just play freestyle these days (unless i play OTB with a irl friend)

I like it sometimes just to give my brain a little exercise. I'm unfortunately very stupid though, it seems lol
