Yeah, I did a project on this in middle school.

Also it was in Modern Warfare:

It's a fascinating relic of Soviet Ukraine.

Have you seen this dome-like thing they constructed to contain the power plant's radiation?

yes

the sarcophagus

watch the docs man, superinteresting

The battle of Chernobyl has to be one of the best documentaries on the subject.

I can't find it on YouTube. You might find it somewhere on the Internet or torrent. BBC Horizon - Inside Chernobyl's sarcophagus. It was filmed in the early 1990's and shows a team of scientists working inside the sarcophagus in absolutely insane radiation levels with just paper dust masks and some lab clothes. They were trying to assess the condition of the reactor building and find out what happened to all the nuclear fuel that didn't burn. At one point one of them was even stood on the lid of the reactor which had blown off and landed on its side.

A few years later there was a follow up and several of the scientists were dead. They were very concerned about a collapse in the remains of the building spreading radioactive dust across Europe again. The Sarcophagus was hurriedly constructed, never air tight and the concrete in places was cracking. The new building should reduce the risk of any further contamination.

Valary Legasov is a tragic figure. He was primarily an inorganic chemist, not a nuclear engineer. He was roped in to this hole crisis because he was one of the few senior scientists left at the Kertchetov institute that afternoon. The rest of the big wigs had buggered off to their Dachas for the May day weekend.

They needed his credibility to try and cover up how badly they fucked up.

"After just 30 seconds of exposure, dizziness and fatigue will find you a week later. Two minutes of exposure and your cells will soon begin to hemorrhage; four minutes: vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. 300 seconds and you have two days to live. Doesn't sound like a very painless method imo. I'll stick to good old charcoal.

you will be deluded then

I'm not going to walk around with a chunk of uranium in my pocket, but the idea of radiation and it's effect on living tissue, I could think about it for hours.

This is a fictionalized account of an incident that did take place, but the character is a made up version of a real guy and the time frame is wrong.

SPOILER: Don't watch if you ever plan on watching FAT MAN AND LITTLE BOY
