Introduction: When you see two related phenomena in life, it is important to deduce which phenomenon is the cause and which is the effect. Sometimes it can be tricky. Let's try some examples:
1. Smoking and lung cancer.
"Gee, I can't help but notice that all these people with lung cancer are smoking cigarettes. Could it be that lung cancer makes people smoke? This is why you're a smoker!"
Do you see what you did wrong there?
2. Birds flying south and cold weather.
"I can't help but notice that every time birds fly south, there is cold weather. Could it be, maybe, just maybe, birds flying south causes the weather to get colder?"
There's a flaw in this logic. Can you tell what it is?
3. A rotting carcass and blowflies
"He's dead. Look at all these blowflies. And he wonders why he died! He has blowflies all over him. Well, now we know the cause of death. Blowflies are lethal."
Right? No?
4. Being unable to have sex and saying mean things about women
"And they wonder why they're incel."
All four of these were fallacious assumptions. There is another possibility you didn't consider. Do you know what it is?
Sometimes, kids, A doesn't cause B. Sometimes...B causes A.
Now let's go back to #4. How can we know which caused which? Well, we can use this thing called, "common sense."
Which seems more logical:
1. Certain men came out of the womb hating women, and those woman haters can't get laid. They coincidentally all look like this:
OR
2. Certain men were rejected by every woman and frequently mocked for their appearance by said women. Over time, they began to resent women, realizing that women are actually mean-spirited creatures who somehow still have an undeserved reputation as the non-superficial gender. While watching these women flocking to certain men - many of these men also happening to be men who bullied them and talked about women disparagingly - they realized that women would much rather a good-looking asshole than a nice unattractive guy. They also observed women teeheeing and being boring ditzes who didn't have to do any work to get laid, so there was no equivalent "loser" female for them to hook up with.
Hey, chronology can be hard. But with this little guide, you should be able to understand how things came to be in the world around you. You will finally be at least as smart as an average 5-year-old back in 1990.
