One - on - one... cartel dudes seem scarier, just in terms of the absolutely insane cruelty and brutality they mete out on people they don't like. Skinning, dismembering, disembowelling live captives with knives etc.

I mean, if any cartel guy or any jihadi gets a camera out you know you're going to have a very bad day. But generally the worst jihad beheading videos, aren't any worse than the milder cartel execution videos.

Except for that Jordanian fighter pilot daesh burned inside a cage. That was pretty nasty.


In terms of overall tactical capability... we only really know what the media feeds us, but Taliban outlasted the entire U.S. military in Afghanistan, I don't know if cartels have ever been put to that test.

Most cartel members are their for money as oppose to suicidal dudes with no value for their life, so probably most cartel members will desert or switch sides.
