Sometimes it can be a good economic system, sometimes it can be terrible depending on the context of the era, society and how it is implemented and for what purposes. However, when you try to capitalize video games, it would only dilute and ruin the experience for gamers.
What do I mean by this? Let's think for a second. You buy a video game or use a free social platform that contains numerous amount of games with their own unique ideas, for example roblox. You enter the game thinking that in order to have fun, you have to be good at it. If it is skill based, it's actually pretty fun seeing how you start as a garbage noobfag and then you rise up and get better at whatever the gameplay dictates you should do.
All is fine until the owner of the game gets greedy as fuck. So greedy that you might as well say his distant ancestor has jewish heritage. And that is when shit hits the fan. Where microtransactions and gamepases are implemented. Where now you gotta buy whatever ingame currency in order to have a bit of advantage over your rivals. Where the game is no longer skill based, but a pay to win shitfest.
You boot up the game, you notice a few updates were added, you don't think too much about it. So you join a match and all of the sudden you realise that your skills and experiences that you've gathered through these months suddenly are ineffective in your success. You think that's weird. Then you notice something. The enemies that you are competing with have great advantages over you. They have miniguns, extra armor, you name it. What's worse is when you realise the people you are fighting are newfags that barely played this game. They might be 12 year old parasites using their own parent's credit card to buy whatever they wished from the game.
So now the game experience turns into a humiliation ritual. Where all the wins are no longer earned, but paid. And the owner makes profits over your humiliation.
Gaming is no longer a passion project or hobby where you get to escape this gay ass world. It's another way for corpos and greedy fucks to make a buck over you getting mogged on by little Jimmy.
