For me, it is not a surprise, that Middle East, Latin America, and Africa are these regions, where the wealth gap is the widest. I do not understand – that American-style Capitalism is the source of inequality. It is not, since, the biggest gaps, in the wealth redistribution, is in the countries, where Socialism and state regulation, dominates. Take Brazil, a very "socialist" country or Russia, where the Russian state dominates in the economy and redistributes big amount of the accumulated wealth, mostly through expensive social programs.
The USA, indeed has a problem with its "TOP 1%", but the source of it is...Wall Street. As long as WallStreet is the main source of the wealth accumulated, within the financial and services sector, mostly through ordinary speculative policies and actions, American-style Capitalism will be perceived as "inhumane". Without WallStreet, American-style Capitalism would be the best form of Capitalist system, ever. Mostly, because of the American entrepreneurial spirit and the big role of Christian values in American society (at least as it used to be).
Corporatism, based on the Christian, but also Platonist values is nothing else than Capitalism upside down, where it is the small entrepreneur and ordinary worker, instead of Big Business and Multinationals, creates the wealth of the Nation. Sadly, the majority of people in the West, do not realise this. Instead, they prefer to live as slaves of Consumption, like zombies, products of Capitalism and Materialism.
