Went to get some food
I was sat out of sight on the right
An MTB mayowhore comes out with my food and calls my order number
I walk up to the counter to get my food from her
She then looks at me and stares and holds eye contact like this as I'm walking up:
I felt uncomfortable so I broke eye contact.
Once I reached the counter she walked away
Usually workers just hand you your food without prolonged eye contact, because that would be weird. But I don't know why she did that to me.
Time for my lonely male overthinking cope:
Could it be a positive sign? As most people don’t typically hold a stare like that unless they’re making a conscious effort to connect.
A service workers smile is usually part of the uniform: automatic and professional. A neutral face is the default, unfiltered state. Maybe she dropped the “customer service persona” and just looked at me directly, without masking her expression, suggests genuine curiosity??
I don't think this was a sub5 reaction. In this kind of high-volume, low-interaction environment like a fast-food counter workers simply wouldn't invest energy in making prolonged eye contact with customers they dislike. If she had a problem with me she would've avoided eye contact entirely, and disengage as fast as possible.
I've been reluctant to go back there again in case I see her. Shame, since the food is always decent
