Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

It is hands down one of the best Metroidvanias I've ever played. In terms of mechanics it's very similar to "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow". It's one of those games where you can just enjoy being lost.

Warning: main character is a femoid who won't give you the time of day.

I think Aria will forever be peak though. It outshines even SOTN (which had a lot of meandering and frustrating moments like that stupid fucking upside down castle)

That game and deaths gambit are like the only metroidvanias I've liked.

I beat the game, saw all the endings and covered 99.60% of the map. Now I'm just wandering around collecting stuff. I got more than my money's worth and I think I'm done with it.

"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" was made by the same guy who made "Castlevanis: Aria of Sorrow" and most of those other metroidvania type games in the franchise.

He's got a game design formula that works and I look forward to his future projects, speaking of which, a sequel to "Bloodstained" is coming in 2026.
