I recently saw a segment about tropical birds in the rainforest.

Basically, no species of these birds have a natural predator in the wild, and the rainforests provide them with such an abundance of food/water/shelter that they put all of their effort into mating. In almost all cases, the females are plain presenting, while the males evolved to have very flamboyant physical appearances and complex mating strategies to try and win over the female, because they're all extremely picky about who to mate with. And theres like 100s of species of species of birds that evolved thos way.

I remember seeing this post explaining it better, but i feel like our society will work much like how theirs does. It can be infered that since the female birds are so extremely picky about their mates, theres a number of male birds that have never and will never procreate, and I wonder if some of them maybe even formed similar behaviors that the incel community has.

There is a limit to how much you can pattern-match human behavior onto animals in similar circumstances and looking ahead it seems obvious that human history is about to come to an end within the next few hundred years at the latest through technological progress. Extrapolating from evolutionary trends no longer gives any insight into how our future will look like.

If you live in a post-scarcity society where there are realistic sexbots available for everyone, or if every new human born is genetically enginereed to be beautiful, or if aging is cured and you get to life for thousands of years while being kind of bored of sex after the first few hundred... your orignial instincts stop being as relevant.
2.) allow us to directly grap those instincts at the root and modify them at will. In the end they are hardcoded into our genome and we will sooner or later decide what is written in there directly.

Any kind of mating does not mean we have to keep all the terrible instincts we have now. In fact, since we are already knee-deep in a fertility crisis, our old instincts obviously aren't well suited to modern society and should be adjusted if possible. In addition, if we ever get to rewriting the human code we even more obviously should make everyone smart / attractive / big dicked / mentally + physcially healthy / etc.

And no, looks don't relativise down so 9/10 becomes the new 5/10. For the same reason cake doesn't lose its appeal in a world where sweets and fats are available in abundance. There was never a need for evolution to introduce a safety mechanism in case you end up surrounded by infinite food or infinite beauty. Also, equalise male and female sex drive.

There is so much we could do if we get that far in the tech tree, and that is only a fraction of a fraction of what we can do if we get AI right. And AI seems to be arriving in the next decades, certainly within this century.

The one thing that is certain is that things will not remain as they are now. Be it apocalyptic, hellish or utopian, some fundamental changes are hitting us within the lifetime of most members here.
