For the last 5 weeks I've been riding my bike to the train station as I don't have my full drivers license yet. It's 8 kms from where I live and takes around 20 minutes.
Every week in a row now without fail, I have suffered abuse from drivers; verbal and almost physical. Almost all of which have been P platers.
In all ways from yelling abuse at me, giving me the finger, driving in the ditch to block me off, to even sneaking up behind me and pulling into the bike line to run me off the road as a joke - having less than a few centimetres on either side from the curb and the car.
Last trip on Tuesday was the worst one yet. The main road I ride along has lots of streets connecting to the main road, and cars give way to us. This young female was driving the car with red P plates, stopped at the intersection clearly waiting for me to pass. She looked directly at me, then henched out a bit more onto the street in order to block me off. I swerved and slammed my brakes on, barely missing her car. Most obvious pull out i've ever seen.
I was also riding down a 1 way street on Friday, with a fair few people about. They have their footpath to the left and I have my ride of way on the bike area. They were walking, taking up the entire road so I was stuck behind them for about a minute. Some of them could clearly see me behind them but just didn't care. I started to ride through a small gap between them, then they started yelling out insults, calling me a wanker, muppet, etc. It's so retarded.
It's just a matter of time before I get rammed from behind by a driver.
