a big caveat is that usually when women say their partner is ugly, he's usually average looking or maybe even slightly above average. he could've been actually ugly (as in sub-4) but that's not true most of the time.

I think women just neurologically perceive men as being uglier than they really are.

iirc women's ratings of men don't follow a gaussian/normal distribution, the median isn't 5 its considerably lower
