It's quite different in Europe, in former Soviet countries, they loose all the time stuff, not talking about the Balkans where guns are everywhere. Even in coutries such as Switzerland, they loose track of dozens of assault rifles each year.

You definitely should ask as for the US, I really can't see how they would have the will and the logistic nightmare to repatriate all the used and "old" equipment, I think they just leave it in some secret storage places or destroy it.
Anyway, if someone is looking for guns and ammo in Europe, it's not that hard if you have the motivation (and contacts) to get it.
