In a report published yesterday, Destatis said that the proportion of couples with a German national and a foreign national more than doubled since 1996.

In 2012, 11.4% of German marriages involved a foreign partner. 5% of marriages were German women marrying foreign men and 6.4% were German men marrying foreign women. If someone came from a foreign country but acquired German citizenship (very common among Turks especially), they were not counted as foreign in this statistic, so the number of intercultural marriages is even higher.
