Starting Uni in January, been a few years since I've been in school.

Could pass for a normie, when they figure me out I'll have two empty chairs next to me  :skeptical:

What do to avoid this completely?

Still at school but probably just try and be as normie as possible. if you've moved city say you have a gf in your hometown

Sit in the front row in Lecture Theatres, it always get full I guess.

Talk to people in your tutorial classes about homework and assignments, just to make it look like you have a social life or something.

If it doesn't work, just LDAR.

Definitely not my experience.

@Troll I went to a new uni last January as well. I mostly focus on my studies because I already know its over, but in the past I had the most success in joining hobby clubs and rec sports.

I'm only part time too so it's a bit weird since I won't be living on campus. I want to get some friends for once, what seating arrangements would get me closer to that?

Honestly unless it's an interactive class, seating arrangement doesn't matter and most people won't be trying to talk mid-lecture with some rando. Just sit where people are sitting if you want to sneak a chat with people once in a while. In general, I haven't seen many people talk in class unless they obviously knew each other from elsewhere. That's why I suggest extracurricular activities like clubs and such.

What kind of school starts in january?

Spring semester starts in January, you don't necessarily have to start in the fall semester.
