I think this is common among incels and autists, and both groups overlap a lot.

Using phones as an example, a lot of incels use Android phones and many have older models or Chinese no-brands which are not considered as "cool" as the popular iphones.

For myself, I personally look for specs and year. If it's decently cheap, has system updates, and has features (newer snapdragon, 120hz screen etc etc) then I will buy it.

My phone is inferior in specs to what the normies have, but I don't play the "hype games" that demands an NASA phone, or do a lot of intense work; I pretty much use my phone as a mobile Pc

Could I afford the latest phones? Easily, in just two months of time cus I earn more $ than the average normie, but they're a waste of money imo.
