They didn't make it illegal to watch hentai or anything, they made it illegal to import 18+ products from Japan into Australia. There's a saying "the more things change the more things stay the same". Every single generation has had their version of this, although I don't think it's gone quite as far as it has now in terms of the banning. Before anime it was violent video games, before violent video games it was heavy metal, before heavy metal it was violent movies, before violent movies it was rock music, before rock music it was shit like Elvis and the Beatles and before that it was jazz music and so on and so forth. This has happened for every single generation. It's always the older generation who feel uncomfortable with new things that seek to restrict or ban them. In Australia this anti-anime agenda is spearheaded by boomers overwhelmingly. They grew up in a different time and had different ideas regarding morality and so did the older generation when boomers were still young.
