It's basically a reskin of the first game with a few minor differences in gameplay and new mobs. Personally, I've never been a fan of Metroidvanias and backtracking in video games in general. My autistic brain needs to do things in stages, and I lose my train of thought when I get lost in this world. I prefer predictable environments to pure exploration.

Still ain't beat Hollow Knight, tried getting into it lately, is the 1st game required before Silksong?. Its overrated tbh, boring arse souls-like, dying over and over to insects.

Metroidvania has always been a niche genre. All other metroidvanias are nowhere near as popular as Hollow Knight
Silksong's in-game mechanics are no different to other metroidvanias. Give it 3 - 6 months and watch the Silksong player count drop by +80%
Normies tend to outsource their opinions and short-term interests to popular icons on social media (streamers or CCs with high sub count etc). This explains the massive hype behind Hollow Knight: Silksong. The same thing happened with Schedule 1 earlier this year
If big streamer with millions of subs tells their viewers to go and play the next game to release on storefront, the same thing will happen
