Discussion Are white people more attractive due to sexual selection or other reasons? (NOT RACEBAITING, don't be uncivil)

I've seen a few users here mention sexual selection to explain why white people are more attractive on average, but I am inclined to disagree. Mainly because of old pre ww2 photos of people. I don't think people had the luxury of choosing an attractive partner ever in europe before WW2, so if sexual selection were true, it would have to take place after the 50s/60s.

I do definitely believe that sexual selection is the reason for certain european countries having high average heights though. That's the only reasonable explanation for the average heights of many european countries increasing so rapidly in such a short time. The average height of dutch men in 1920 for example was 170cm/5'7, in 1980 it was 183cm/6'.


Anyway, what do you believe is the reason for white people being more attractive?

Note that natural and sexual selection are NOT the same. Natural selection is choosing for traits that increase your chances of survival. Sexual selection is choosing for traits that are deemed attractive which may or may not help survival. Often times sexual selection starts off as natural selection, but deviates from it over time. Example, peacock tails. It likely shows good genetic quality to have long colorful feathers but it also attracts predators easily.

Blue eyes don’t provide a survival advantage, instead they simply strike better contrast and therefore look good. Hence they are sexually selected for. Not being white on its own can’t make you an incel- it’s usually having poor natural selection qualities like a weak jaw, weak midface, droopy eyelids etc. or short height that must be combined to with non-white. Being white is just a bonus feature.

It's just adaptation to the cold & low UV environment of Northern Europe. The low UV environment gave them their coloring, while cold adaptation provides robust morphology and tall height.

The fact that many Europeans were nomadic warrior cultures that didn't have much settled history until the Middle Ages likely plays a role as well, as it helped filter out physically weaker members of the population
