Making sense of the widening gender mental health gap: what teenage girls told us
Girls said that visual platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, particularly reiterate gendered expectations for girls on how they should present themselves.

Come on man what on earth are we even doing. For a fact we already know that men are going to be less vocal about mental health concerns, leading to an inflation of the female proportion. Also a lot of the thing that are being considered as "mental health issues" of females are just normal anxieties or even artificial constructs that are just being leveraged for special treatment.
"Oh no Suzy judged my new hairstyle my life is OVER" is in no way equivalent to the suicidal male of comparative age who has been a social outcast for life. Considering my own mental condition in the stipulated range age (17–19), it was primarily abysmal, while girls of comparative age were/are thriving. Things have only improved somewhat now because I became more enthusiastic about GPA-maxxing and IQ-mogging and improved my self-esteem this way. Another beneficial factor was an increased understanding of the forces working against me, so the problems and failures no longer seemed so amorphous.
