This song and video are very profound, and it struck me in a deep philosophical way.

If taken from a literal perspective the character can be interpreted as ourselves.

Before we are born we are characterless and have no base identity. It is only through entering this world that we are given a character that we are playing. A mask to hide ourselves.

Masks can be symbolic of many things.

Hiding away many fears and many pains. It may be cliché at times, but when it's done right it can be used in a very artistic way.
