Yeah it's tedious. It was fine back in the day when only some games had female protagonists but now it's almost every game.

Female protagonists weren't that rare in older 90s games like I've been playing lately. The thing is, it wasn't part of their character being some overpowered girlboss bitch.

I think it's a popular genre atm but yeah that doesn't necessarily translate to quality, just quantity.

I don't think that's the fault of the genre - most AAAs are bad atm.

I have a rule that I don't play hack n slash (just because it's not really my genre) and another that I don't play games with female protagonists (because they're too common and too forced) so that rules out almost all of these games lol

What hackin and slashin games would you say are good?

I wish there were more Action games like Devil May Cry, Hi-fi rush, Bayonetta etc... but it seems the market is oversaturated with souls-like instead.

Honestly not many come to mind, god of war trilogy, the new god of wars are still alright depth wise, devil may cry series, darksiders is pretty alright, and ninja gaiden games. I feel like souls games are their own sub genre but still would include them too!
