The reason I ask this highly specific question is because finasteride is known to deplete neurosteroid concentrations in the brain -- particularly allopregnanolone, which is crucial to the functioning of GABA receptors.

And GABA is impaired in autism in the first place! This is why autists like me experience rather drastic personality changes when taking substances which increase GABA (e.g. phenibut, bromantane). Namely, it results in the lowering of inhibitions.

So it would seem as though finasteride is sure to have the opposite effect (the heightening of already high inhibitions).

And indeed, there is evidence that low allopregnanolone levels are associated with increased retardation in autism:

Taken together, our findings demonstrate that in adult males with ASD, decreased serum allopregnanolone levels are associated with more severe restricted and repetitive behaviors and with less insight into the severity of these behaviors.

A study in experimental models suggests that allopregnanolone, one of many hormones produced by the placenta during pregnancy, is so essential to normal fetal brain development that when provision of that hormone decreases or stops abruptly – as occurs with premature birth – offspring are more likely to develop autism-like behaviors

And this is not even to speak of likely sexual side effects from finasteride, given that DHT increases libido and nitric oxide release.

So fellow autists, have you tried finasteride and how did it go? Did it make you more retarded and impotent?

does it make you more NT?

GABAergics certainly make me less anxious, and more impulsive too if they increase dopamine levels simultaneously (as with phenibut and bromantane).

Compare to something like gabapentin, which mimics GABA but decreases dopamine. It's only good for chilling.

what do I do if im an NT but I show autistic tendenancies :feelswhat: is it cos of my ugly face:feelswhat: will anti-depressant fix this

I’m pretty sure you made this thread before lulz

I made a thread about finasteride before, but did not gain any insight into autism and finasteride in particular.

There needs to be a survey of autists who take finasteride, given the potential for mental side effects.

Try nootropics to see how you respond to things. It's what I've done.

Ksm-66 ashwagandha was the first thing I tried long-term. I responded to it like an SSRI.

It decreased my neuroticism by making me apathetic and anhedonic. I didn't experience a stress response on it to sudden, scary situations (like a wild animal attacking you in RDR 2 or a trash can blowing across the highway in traffic). But I also had much reduced libido/passion, probably due to the decrease in dopamine it caused. Indeed, increasing dopamine promotes my libido.

I learned from trying ashwagandha that I should seek to increase GABA while increasing dopamine, and not mess with serotonin too much, for an optimal effect. SSRIs are not for me, and the only thing I like about them is how they can increase GABA.

Hmm I didn't know autism naturally lowers GABA, big if true cuz it would explain high inhib. Also finasteride is chemical castration so I'm wondering how this affected ur sex drive as well? Do u not give a shit about foids anymore?

ashwaganda never helped me tbh, I'll try nootropics its hard to get a prescription these days.

Alcohol is the easiest way to increase GABA while also increasing dopamine, but it makes you retarded.

Phenibut gives you the GABA and dopamine promoting effects of alcohol without the retardation. And interestingly, autists report having diminished withdrawal symptoms from it, perhaps because their brains are already accustomed to being deficient in GABA:

I've been cautious with phenibut so far and haven't tested whether I would get massive withdrawal symptoms after sustained use, but I'd be easily able to manage a tapering of phenibut in the case of an addiction with other GABAergics. One day I'll see...

What I have noticed is that adderall hits less hard after you've been taking phenibut for a while, probably due to a downregulation of dopamine receptors. Bromantane, for its part, is known to upregulate dopamine via the tyrosine hydroxylase enzyme, so perhaps it's an ideal substance to cycle with phenibut given that it comes with a similar effect and can optimize endogenous dopamine release.

Also finasteride is chemical castration so I'm wondering how this affected ur sex drive as well? Do u not give a shit about foids anymore?
I have not taken it (yet), but this is another major concern of mine. I already have a struggling libido and fear that finasteride would be the final nail in the coffin for my masculinity.

It's not a good sign that jewtube's biggest promoter of finasteride all but admits to using ED drugs every time he has secks:

based shirt btw

He claims to not need ED drugs, merely using them as "enhancers," but notice how he crosses his arms and assumes guarded body language when he says this :feelshehe:

The top comment:

Tried Cialis for the first time since starting Fin. I dont really have ED, I am 25 and healthy. But I noticed that after a couple months taking the fin, erections just took a bit longer to get to 100% which was sometimes a bit annoying. It's probably entirely psychological
What's psychological is this coping :feelshaha:

Diagnosed at 3, AMA :feelsjuice:
Did finasteride worsen symptoms of anxiety/depression, if you had issues before starting? Did it effect cognition? Did it result in sexual side effects?

:feelswhere:

Got me back to NW0, no side effects other than mild brainfog
The brainfog goncerns me since I take intellect very serious as a 'tist

Sperg and Finasteride user here. Experienced increased water retention in face, dark circles/crows eyes. The sporadic brain fog everyone talks about feels similar to sleep deprivation, but without feeling sleepy. Whats funny is libido actually increased. But I decided benefits outweigh the negatives as I refuse to end up bald & have nothing to lose. Either its hair or no life for me.

It seems like I already experience finasteride side effects without even taking it :feelshaha:

This is why it scares me.

I wonder if there's an autist who could claim to have experienced absolutely no sides from fin? But tbh I think that "no sides" is a meme from those who lack the introspection to notice how substances effect them in multilayered ways.

I know first hand from ashwagandha that if you appreciate one thing that a substance is doing for you, you will ignore the bad. I liked how it decreased my anxiety, so I ignored how it nuked my libido and passion to do things.

A calculated decision to continue taking a drug despite the side effects is another matter, but not if those side effects become permanent. So, for example, I didn't mind the nuked libido ashwagandha gave me because I assumed that it would stop upon cessation, but an impaired libido has been persistent upon discontinuation for me, JFL. And this is just a standardized herb and not a potent pharmaceutical, too.

My decision re: Finasteride wasn't easy. I spent a couple years avoiding it. it was only at NW3, and realized everyone was staring at me like a freak when I took my hat off with a shaved head, because I found out the hard way I'm not Chad with a model tier face like Kelly Slater, Vin Diesel or Bruce Willis. I'm a manlet sperg. I decided don't care at this point if its screwing up my hormones, as long as it targets the root problem. I've read of miracle stories of regrowth on halrloss boards, but this depends on genetics, at which point Dutaseride (a stronger 5ar inhibitor) is also an option. In terms of organics, Saw Palmetto can also work, but may cause similiar sides as Fin.

Why would Kevin Mann start using ciacils or some shit to enhance his fucking erections :feelshaha::feelshaha::feelshaha::feelshaha::feelshaha::feelshaha: around at the same time to take a drug that's been known to do that shit:feelshaha: such as fucking around his libido. :feelsclown: also doesn't he take roids or some juice at the very least jfl
