Imagine a contest whose purpose is to eliminate 10,999,999 of 11 million American children each year in a public and humiliating fashion. That's a lot of crying children every year. It's not a fair contest because every kid gets different words. It's simply done for the entertainment of adults in the audience. The kids don't know what the vast majority of the words mean. It's rote memorization, including the vocab and etymology stuff. Adults and children waste millions of hours every year organizing spelling bees and studying for them.
And Indian incel autists spend 5,000+ hours of their childhood studying and striving and trying hard for this. In the time it takes to study for elite spelling bees, a kid could learn musical instruments ,or the top 2000 words in several languages, giving them a good reading ability of those languages for life.
This "all American" tradition/curse has been handed down for generations by the unthinking (but these "educators" think they're highly intelligent).
