this is because your hair already "stealthily" starts looking wrong and like shit as soon as you lose some hair density, long before you develop bald spots or look like you're balding. it becomes hard to style it and make it keep its shape throughout the day.
this is one thing that decides which boys are seen as "hot" by girls in middle school or high school, when no one is balding yet. the girls already heavily penalize the boys who have less dense and thick hair, which easily loses its form and gets fucked up by the wind for example.

Having long hair boosts helps me look not so sub-human. I keep my long hair down, which serves to cover my inward gonial angle and recessed lower third. If I were to cut it, my oval shaped face would be even more prominent.
