I’m from USA. Does anyone here work in construction? What’s it like? Do you have to operate machinery often?
Ive done it, and most of the tools are hand tools.
Only rarely do big machine required. Bulldozers, trenchers/ backhoes, good gig if you have the skills for it.

It depends on the job, or contractors (bosses)... Some folks work all daylight! Others do it hourly...
Sometimes they'll even buy you a hotel room and food! Mostly gas line construction work does that.

I've done a fair amount of trades type work
its usually not as physically terrible as ppl think, though some days can be tough. power tools do most of the tough shit nowadays
it aint perfect but it's usually less bad sitting at a desk bored to shit for 8 hours
best to specialize in something like hvac or electric, pay is way better. plus IMO its really not any harder than carpentry or whatnot

Also, it's good life skills to have since u can always fall back on it as a side hustle

No skills or I'd gladly be doing it every now and then.
Got taught nothing by my dad and even the trade schools here suck major balls.
I would gladly teach myself, but tools are expensive and I have very little space.
So even teaching myself is not an option.
The reason why nobody wants to teach the next generation anything is because they either have no time or they are guarding their own spot at work to not lose it to you.
And then these fuckers here have the audacity to say that we are all dumb, lazy bums.
I have taught myself to program in CNC and was able to work on the machines at my former place of work.
I have also taught myself to program another machine which has a different control system at my former place of work.
Nowadays when your superior at your new place of work asks you what skills you have he does not necessarily do so to figure out how he can best employ you.
Nowadays many do it to figure out how much of a competition you potentially are amd then they give you the shittiest job of them all or a job you are not even qualified for so you will quit on your own.
It has happened to me many times in my professional life.
Tomorrow is my first day at my new place of work.
I wonder what assholes I will have to work with this time.
At least you don't sit around all day and get all stiff. And yes, power tools do the heavy lifting nowadays, as well as cranes and such.
