It’s funny how I can still read people’s faces and read their posture or tone but yet I can’t seem to mask my symptoms appropriately?

Like I know when someone is making fun of me or is trying to be nice to me but I somehow can’t figure out what to do in that situation

Sort of... I can get metaphors in books and understand emotions from pictures but can't do so irl.

I struggle talking to people for the most part but I also fail to understand when I’m being the butt if the joke unless it’s super obvious

Most conversations could be covered with a flow chart, just need enough info to cover various scenario’s and go from there.

The communication issues go 2 ways, NT’s struggle to understand ND’s too.

I've often found when speaking to other autistic people, we can be rather good at reading people, it's all pattern recognition. I find though that NT people really struggle to read autists.

I remember reading somewhere that narcists dislike us because we are hard to read.

When you think about it, if you’re autistic you spend all your time reading NT’s so you have more practice.

For a NT they might only meet a ND like once a week.

I can read others from a mile away, even on accident or by luck. But I wouldn't say I'm NT. It’s made me completely isolate myself to the degree I choose to be kept from their immediate perception.

Faces and tones not at all. Intentions and thoughts based on words and actions, yes. If I invite a normie to an activity, he says "I'll think about it" I know it's a polite way to refuse... albeit I didn't know it the first time I got hit with that. A normie would've known that inherently, I had to do the reps.
