I edc (carry) a spiderco tenacious, or an Ontario rat, folders. If expecting trouble I carry a 7"+ mil dagger on my weak side.

But I no longer carry my knifes as weapons. I carry them as very useful and handy tools. I also carry a leatherman multitool.

I was in lots of knife fights and only poked shoes that were kicking me. I never stabbed anyone. I just used it to keep them away from me.

I open my mail, packages and cut various things with it.
