thanks people for interest and good vibes …sigh…embarrassed and realizing I may have to wait a little bit before firing something up, what with wageslaving now hitting me nonstop for its pound of flesh …but will keep on world building when I can and will see if we can get somethin started later on maybe in the next few weeks or even months depending on people’s schedules etc… good to know some brocels would be interested so this might not be another completely solitary effort ultimately … thanks for responding

Thinking to do this—please let me know if you have other ideas:

Let’s say late October, maybe Halloween even, let’s rig up a voice call via WhatsApp or Discord.

I would like you to make characters in old school style. By mid or late October let’s say, please let me know your name, race, class, and please roll 3d6 strength-dexterity-constitution-intelligence-wisdom-charisma. Heck, post up here. (I wonder, maybe we could even play here!) If you have backstory ideas for your character, I would love that.

Further to the mechanics of character creation: Personally, I’ve never taken to skills as a thing … hot take, I feel like that is what attributes are for … for example, instead of running a d100 test for mountain climbing, let’s just check that dexterity when you’re trying to scale a wall or whatever. Happy to run that strictly if that is your preference though.

On inventory, follow the rules & if there is any question, the answer is yes unless I have some other ideas. My philosophy is the challenges and opponents you may meet will be equal to the talents and assets your character and team have.

Inspiration/vibe is desert barbarianism … among other things, Dark Sun and Troy Denning’s novels. Basically, a primitive desert world with ruins of more civilized times. I like the idea of a world wasted away by magic. Magic costs something. Like technology.

An idea.

I would like to give each player one (1) kind of badass and broken magical item.

If you would like, please come up with your own idea of what that might be.

These items may have a chaotic side to them, however…I would not say they’re cursed per se, but something like the older Nethack philosophy of inventory would apply.

Not at all. Find 3 six sided dice and roll them for each of the attributes and make up the rest and I’ll help with any questions or issues.
