I got 5~year old laptop and it's slow as hell, I mean reaaally slow; so slow that in fact sometimes it kind of gives up from turning on. Also the battery doesn't add up anymore, the charger has to be plugged in mandatory or else the thing will shut down and run out of power in less than 45 minutes (from full). Also google chrome takes hundreds of milennia to open, and to open a new tab.
I don't know it's exact specifications, but it has 4GB of DDR4 RAM, no graphic card (that I know of), Intel core i4 (if I'm not mistaken), Windows 10 installed, and at least 1TB of free space in it's hard drive (I don't remember exactly how many TB has in total, but at least 2).

The thing is, is there some way to polish it and put it back on track? To it's good ol' glory? It's been kind of forgotten over the years (by me mostly, 2 years of almost no use) but is there some way to help the thing? I'm scared I might've burnt it down from usage, installing shit like PS2 and PSX emulators, Skyrim, Geometry Dash, MGS Substance (2), photoshop, adobe premiere (for school) and other 'stuff'.
I did (or attempted) to do a clean up a few times, like turning off secondary programs or deleting some caché, and it worked for some time, but now it's worse than ever, when I open the file explorer it takes a sweet amount of time to launch and it says (not responding) and shiee.

I know it sounds BAD but is there any way to revive my love? She's suffering please, is there a cure?

A ram upgrade, and replacing the hard drive with an SSD would significantly improve performance.

how good are you with DIY

probably bloatware from shindows

Solution : Buy a new laptop

either install Linux, buy a new one, or use this as a character arc and learn how to DIY replace your parts with better ones, though to be fair a lot of it depends on how easy it is to do that on your machine which varies a lot from laptop to laptop

Run the task manager

Lookup the stuff thats running.

Turn off and maybe remove whatever is sucking up all the processor power.

Also run spybot s&d or whatever spyware, adware. Antivirus you can like...

Switching to a lighter web browser would at least go easier on the RAM because 4gb is very low these days, as I'm sure that others have said!

Upgrading that would be an excellent idea I think ^_^

It was true brother, recently I uninstalled chrome and installed Brave instead; it really works as good as new, although it has some lag spasms every now and then, but the first step was taken succesfully!

There are much lighter browsers than Brave too, but yeah it makes sense that it's lighter than Chrome.

SSD, additional RAM, cleaning out the fans

Should get the work done. If your lappy is still slow then backuo your files and reinstall windows

4gb ram in 2025 is crazy, definitely upgrade that.
