I have played 1-3, BBS, CoM, DDS, and 2.8. I really only liked 1,2 and BBS. 2.8 was fine for what it was, a demo. The KH story now makes even less sense to me than it did when I was a kid. Nomura is what Kojima would have become 12 years ago if Kojima didn’t have Konami execs telling him to chill. At least I enjoyed all the main MGS games.
KH is a mess now and KH3 was a disappointment gameplay wise and thematically. The story was of course going to be cheesy, but I can suspend my disbelief as long as the story is cohesive and delivers thematically. Unfortunately, KH3 was a rushed mess and I don’t even know what the theme was when compared to Birth By Sleep, KH1, and KH2.
I knew the game was going nowhere from the prologue. Why did I even travel to any worlds in KH3? I didn’t need to unlock world keyholes, free worlds from darkness, etc. Only the last 3 hours mattered and it was a bunch of fighting with little context. The gameplay wasn’t even challenging this time around. I played on Proud and breezed through, whereas standard mode on KH1 and 2 was a challenge. I also finished the game much faster than the other two main titles. Rip a fun series.
