Beyond how it ruined dating for sub8 males, the access to chads, competitivity and d all that, there is another aspect that made life way worse with the advent of social media, before social media even if your life was shit/boring, it didn't feel that awful because you weren't bombarded by instagram/facebook profiles of people living having fun/giving the appearance of a very fulfilling/dynamic life (it's way more exacerbated by how people select only the highlights for social media), you didn't know how boring it is because you lacked the comparison, you didn't have the disturbing, bleak contrast right in front of your screen, a touch away.

Not only that but whenever you met people outside of your school, you always had a chance to give a good first impression, people didn't have a profile they can use you to label you easily because your pictures have less than 20 likes and your publications less than 4, it was easier to be spontaneous and carefree, now either you don't have social media and you are labelled as creep, or people will ask for your social media, you have it and you will be immediately labelled, classified into a rigid label you can't escape from, your pic have less than 20 likes ? Even if you act confident and social, you aren't duping anybody, people have computed that the cool/interresting guys have more social media interractions, you can't escape the label as people will treat you accordingly to the impression they made about you.

If someone has so awesome life do you think he would need to waste time on Facebook? I had some good periods in my life and usage of Facebook at those time was minimal. Now I am actually trying to convince myself that my life is not so bad, so I am posting on Facebook frequently.
When someone is really happy he doesn't need fb validation to prove it for himself and others. When someone has normal levels of dopamine in his brain he does not need to obtain it from likes.
