A big part of the appeal to anime is the novelty, getting exposed to a fresh new culture. Then there’s the relatable cast, SOL vibe, good soundtrack and visuals. But over time it eventually gets old. You try chasing the next masterpiece and end up going nowhere. When you first start anime even a 6/10 series is entertaining enough.

Yes the first thing that comes to mind for me is video games, as a millennial especially MMORPGs, no way to replicate that initial feeling again.
