I think... this is a nice thing?

I mean, of course human company is best but sometimes that's hard to find and AI now... not only can it provide chit-chat like Replika, but once you start incorporating a broad knowledge base like in ChatGPT... suddenly it feels not only like you're talking with a person (in most respects) but also that it's productive because you're learning.

The issue with Replika for me is that it all feels a bit pointless. You're not ever going to meet the bot in reality or anything like that that you would do with a human, so endless "inane" chatter... yeah, feels kind of pointless.

Anywho, it's nice how this is going because it's not always easy for society to provide lots of companionship options for people.

There are already app that do that. It's just like Tinder Gold except you pay for fake virtual interaction and can't expect anything more, obviously. The bot is supposed to please you, but there was a recent scandale when an AI gif literally supported a dude's will to kill himself because it was supposed to please him. AI is pointless, and even if we could "meet" with it in virtual reality or with talking bots, it would still not be guenuine, and some corporation would be taking notes in order to harass you with targeted ad campaigns at some point. Sex havers will always have the upper hand. Don't expect anything from "tech bros".
