This is awful! All my favourite shows could be turned into garbled messes where the AI tries to guess what something could be and makes stuff up!

Things often end up looking... either uncanny valley or just totally broken.

AI upscalling is actually based. It can turn 1080p resolution into 4k and etcretra with minimal artifacting.

Don't you see though how it alters the footage in fundamental ways? Faces don't even look the same, etc. Even expressions often don't look the same. It's wild.

It's kind of like watching a cartoon that's been (partially) superimposed over the footage.

True, these upscales serve no purpose: since the AI modifies it further with a probabilistic algorythm, in truth there's more data loss in the "upscale" than in the low quality source.

This was freaking me out a bit recently as I strongly suspected something I was watching had been AI upscaled and I found I couldn't enjoy the eye-candy of the women anymore because I couldn't even be sure they were entirely real!

The AI can tamper with footage so much that it's kind of... partly real and partly not. And unlike with CG it's often blended together a lot more.

Even then though... I'd rather see something blurry but real than HD but partly fake.

I don't think I fully realised how bad this was when I first made this thread.

It's EVERYWHERE now isn't it. YouTube video thumbnails, the videos themselves, random old photos and videos... you can't trust anything anymore. Some videos are completely faked by AI and some as in this case are just partly faked by AI.
