A fertilizer shortage caused by the war in Ukraine has put much of Africa on the verge of food insecurity, and they cannot farm enough to feed their population without modern expensive farming methods which require highly effective engineered fertilizer. Imagine if there's an economic crash and all the rich countries stop spending money on UN Food programs which gives Africa around half of their grain supply too. If you want to go even further imagine if draughts and poor climate cause mass crop failures, hundreds of million/billions would die.
Also their population is exploding so it gets progressively harder to feed everyone.
This is an actual possibility in the next few decades, according to several analysts.
