Cool, right? :D

There are ones for other browsers too.

I find that adblock on youtube doesn't always work... I have ublock origin but it's hit and miss especially now that google are trying to clamp down on it.

I thought I'd share this alternative with people as that skip button clicking thing drives me nuts!

i think they all track your data

What's a YouTube ad?

Newpipe / brave

Oh yeah I forgot about apps like Newpipe ^^

Brave erm... I did use it for a while back on Windows but as Linux Mint and almost all other Linux distros come with Firefox I thought I'd stick with it.

Just use ublock origin (extension) bro

I kept getting this weird problem where the video would stop and buffer forever. I thought maybe it was adblock related (it is ublock).

It seems to be OK now but I guess also the skipper is a nice backup!

Also it's good for people on Chrome as I've heard it doesn't allow adblock anymore. :feelsree:

Brave is a chromium fork

It has blockers built into it

Yah but what I heard is that Chromium doesn't allow them, and Brave is built on Chromium.

Maybe I was misinformed or maybe the wiley Brave devs are doing something clever!

Google Chrome is a closed fork of Foss chromium.

I took a quick look - apparently the issue is with something called Manifest v3 and it's... a technology used for the extensions or something.

Maybe it's difficult or impossible to make an adblock on v3 but Brave gets around this because it's not an extension it's built into the browser.

uBlock Origin + Sponsor Block does the job best

Just use brave. Chrome is determined to consistently modify their code to remove blockers. Destroying ublock origin was the final straw for me

I'm using Firefox atm mainly because it's the browser that comes with most/all of the major Linux distributions.

Also I don't trust Google in general - a lot of these weird changes are not to Chrome they're to Chromium AFAIK.

You can fork Chromium at any point. In fact, Brave is already forked and the team just applies relevant patches. Switching from Chrome to Brave was easy, now I don’t have to worry about the most intrusive parts of Chrome. I don’t trust Mozilla, and given their main source of funding was just blocked, they’re desperate.

Hm, maybe it's "six of one, half a dozen of the other".

Maybe you're right that Brave is still OK to use despite the Chromium concerns, idk.

I just stick with Firefox as it's the Linux default and I figure they must have chosen it for a good reason.
