One overlooked advantage people in rice and curry countries have over Westerners is that those non-Western cultures have defined expectations of behavior for men and women over age 30. Across the world men are typically 3 year older than their female partners. Of course, rich men will still have young concubines, but in general, no one considers "May/December" relationships to be about romance. China considers 27 to be the cutoff to be a "sheng-nu" aka "leftover woman" meaning too old for young single guys to pursue. This has the effect of limiting the number of men who are seeking out the attention of young women. Of course, if this cultural trait didn't exist, then curries and rice would be even more fucked [over] by the already existing gender imbalances.
A vivid example of this cultural difference is in the dating show 'If You Are the One.' This is a popular Chinese dating game adapted for various Western markets. Here is the Irish version:
The contestant is actually the short guy on the left! The hosts is older but mogs the guy he's supposed to be facilitating in romance.
By contrast, the original Chinese version has a host who is clearly portraying a elder advisory, "uncle" role:
As a hedonistic society, the West has no role for older male "father figures." Instead, these older "wiser" men are sexual competitors.
