Haidamaks - an Orthodox insurgents in XVIII century Ukraine, often hanged together on the same tree a Pole, a Jew and a dog, accompanied with the inscription "A Pole, a Jew, and a dog - all of the same faith."
Haidamaks were Cossacks and Ukrainian peasantry of the Orthodox faith who fought against Polish Catholic and Jewish oppression of local people.
They targeted ethnic Poles, Polonised local nobility, Jews, Jesuits, Roman Catholics and Greek Catholics.
They massacred thousands of Poles and Jews. Small minorities such as Muslims were also targeted.
