On a more general level I think that some of it has to do with the fact that men subconsciously know that women are the gatekeepers of sex and by extension breeding so any foid dying is less chance for reproduction and a harder dating market to deal with.
I might just be looking at this too deeply tho, it probably has more to do with the fact that men and society as a whole put foids on a pedestal.
