I should have finished repayments by the time I'm 48. At that point, I'll have no rent to pay and no more mortgage repayments.

In the meantime... I have no landlord checking up on me every few months, and no housemates, so no putting up with housemate shit.

And inflation means people renting this house today, would be paying more than my mortgage repayments. I'd struggle to afford to rent this house now.

I'm MUCH happier than I would be right now if I hadn't done this.

I'm not some giga successful entrepreneur, I just got my stem degree and got a decent job doing work that is interesting and pays well enough.

I timed it quite well, I was ready to buy right before a massive property bubble that has locked a lot of people out of home ownership for about a decade. But that always comes in cycles, and houses have lost 25% of their value in the last 2 years so that should help a new cohort of young people to buy something and get started.

Staying in your parents house and staying small and helpless, is the absolute worst thing anybody can do. Nobody here should be doing that.

I'm hardly a giga-successful entrepreneur. All you need to do is get into something that isn't retail. Go to college and get a stem degree and get an engineering job. Or get into a trade like building or plumbing or electrical. It's harder than sitting on your ass but it doesn't any kind of exceptual talent that you are somehow locked out of. Getting started is the hard part, getting your first job or getting accepted to college. After that it's just work.
