This is how my great grandfathers brother is listed on the 1911 Irish census, 25 and single, he never married and lived with his nephew until he died in his 70s, or should I say his nephews family lived with him, he was oldest son so he must have inherited the house. I wonder how bachelors existed in those days? I don't think women would have been picky back then.

Meanwhile, nothing happened between 1845-1849
I often Imagine what the population of ireland been today if the famine didn't happen the population back then was more than 8 million

My uncle has ginger hair and is married, to a feminist though, he is completely under the thumb, recently he was afraid to tell her he had to work on the weekend.

There were lots of men like this who never married but we don't hear about the since they are leaves on the family tree. Second sons and such thing.
