Thats my view, the population of humans was going to go way down. The question was how.
When births go low the population can drop off fast. Like by generation with 1 million people if they have a fertility rate of 1.575 which is 75% of the replacement rate of 2.10. And each generation is 25 years.
Start: 1,000,000
Gen 1: 750,000
Gen 2: 562,000
Gen 3: 421,000
Gen 4: 316,000
Gen 5: 237,000
Gen 6: 177,000
Gen 7: 133,000
Gen 8: 100,000
Gen 9: 75,000
Gen 10: 56,000
So then we are at the kids born 250 years hence.
A fertility rate of 1.575 is about where the Western world is, and its not even that low. It means out of 10 women they have about 16 kids.
