It’s like how people turn bitter and resentful as a means to combat the pain inflicted by other people being bitter and resentful towards them. You have no other alternatives, it’s either adapt, comply and thrive or suffer and die.

Most of them cope with extremism solely because the world around them has been equally extreme. All of it is cherished and admired all around. Again they were born INTO it, they really can’t fathom any better.

Well said. What you just wrote was described by Ted Kaczynski as surrogate activities. All basic needs are covered by modern society to the point that the average person has nothing to work towards. This leads to a lack of meaning, which in turn lays the foundation for hedonism, nihilism, pessimism, atheism, etc.
