Love seems to basically mean the impulse to do irrational actions for other living things. Love of parents or other relatives is exemplified by affection for unremarkable sapiens simply due to genetic closeness or bonding experiences. Love between men and women would be considered the most intense on the scale, motivating murder regularly. When people bring up "love" as some concept that needs to be applied to work, politics or whatever, that's basically saying we all should have more irrationality toward one another.
