His mother spoiled him to such an extent that he developed this narcissistic view of himself, he was so aspie to never approach girls due to the bullying and teasing he faced in middle school which caused him to be very shy around girls so he never approached one and asked her out. He assumed that everyone rejected him because no one approached him, he had some support from therapists and such but he stopped taking his medication and treatment after a while because it never worked for him.
He had a friend before from France named Max whom helped him to feel like a "popular kid" (his own words) when he went to France with him and but became envious of his Sexual experiences, also his friend James whom Elliot had been with since Elementary school had left him due to not agreeing with his delusions of if he can't have sex then no one can and stopping (which is a childish goal that can never be achieved) he just went down a spiral of madness to think he was a living God enacting revenge on the world.
Overall, Elliot's problems really were mostly down to himself and his behavior throughout the stages of his development from Middle school onward (aside from his bullying in a high school he briefly attended) most of the bad things that happened to him was his own fault.
