The Lottery of Survival and The Lottery of Esteem
The Lottery of Survival is the game you play to determine your country and family of birth. This lottery determines, as described in the name, your likeliness to survive and go on to adulthood and lead an independent life. Eg born the seventeenth child of a pair of african nomads who had you by accident and have no means of supporting you to survive to adulthood, or born the son/daughter of rich socialites in New York City. This is the lottery which is universally referred to when talking about how "well off" people are. "They're from a good family" or "That kid's parents are rich, he has everything he could ever want". Its the lottery everyone gets envious of, and the one everyone compares their lottery draw to everyone else. How much money your family gets, what things you can afford in life, and how much material and financial security you have. It would seem to be the most important lottery, or so it would seem according to what the mainstream media tells you about bringing on universal equality. The Lottery of Survival is not something that stays with you for life. Your survival depends on a millon factors and your lifestyle and survival is constantly evolving through life. You may hit that big promotion to a manager or overseer of a massive company with a 500k salary, or you could get fired from your job and be broke for weeks or months.
There's a second Lottery that not many people talk about, nor are willing to acknowledge as a reality.
The Lottery of Esteem. Unlike Survival, Esteem is something that is determined from birth BUT ALSO stays fixed with you until death, and will never ever change. The extent you hold yourself in good esteem, is determined entirely by your genetic fate. How you look, how smart you are, how tall you are, and every component of your physical being. None of these are more important than the esteem provided by the face. We all know face determines almost every social, sexual and spiritual relationship you have in life. Having a bad face moulds you from day 1. Having a bad face is something that cannot be escaped, you can't "earn a good face" with great effort and labour like you can "earn money" in a good career. Your self esteem is either there for life from strong genetics, or was never there to begin with. With some encouragement from a young age you may have self esteem to begin with, but when life catches up to you and your lived experience starts painting a different picture to what mommy and daddy said, "You can get any girl you want", or "You can succeed at whatever you put your mind to", you start to realise the irreversible and unbreakable genetic limits placed upon you in life.
We're all on this forum right now with internet connection, likely in at least a somewhat middle class family and living somewhat comfortably thanks to getting comfortable numbers in the Survival Lottery. And yet, the question needs to be asked, which one is more important?
Can having a comfortable financial and material existence really be more important than having good self esteem, ergo, a desire to actually live and experience what it means to be a human? To experience love, romance, friendships, relationships, and deep, meaningful social contact?
This is the most counterintuitive black pill of all. You'd expect those with financial and material comfort to be the happiest and most successful, and yet countless studies and time and time again have we been shown, the only lottery truly worth winning, the one that makes life worth it, is the lottery of esteem, which will make you or break you for life.
