"Fairness" is a tremendously flawed, concept. The circumstances of everyone's birth, life, and death are all different. Everybody has different genetics and different experiences. Even two identical particles have different space-time coordinates and vectors.

The good old concept of patriarchy. Strict monogamy, strict sexual moral (especially for women) and women depending on a man to have a good living. This is what thousands of years guaranted 99% of men to have a wife and family one day. Even some slaves could have wives. Like, even some men in North Korean Prison camps can get a wife as a reward.

After all, you need to satisfy men in a society. If you don't do that, you will have civil wars one day. Most of the emperors in history knew that. You can let them be poor, live in shitholes, have them starve some times... But at least give them a wife to fuck at night.
