I'm highly interested in the world of pimping, and it made me think about the relationship between a pimp and the women who work for him. In many ways, they can be seen as his "wives," working to earn money and giving it to him — either willingly or out of fear, especially if he's what’s known as a "gorilla pimp," someone who uses violence to control them.
But how is this so different from a so-called "beta provider" — a man who works hard every day to financially support his wife, sometimes even giving her full access to his bank account and letting her manage all the household money, especially in cultures where that’s considered normal?
In a way, the "beta provider" becomes the one being used. He works, pays for everything, and in return might occasionally get affection or intimacy. But often, he finds himself trapped in a psychological prison, torn between leaving and facing loneliness or staying and hoping for love or sex that rarely comes.
The worst part is that many of these men end up divorced. The woman may end up with the house, the car, the kids, and even a portion of his pension — while he loses almost everything, and another man ends up with the woman he sacrificed so much for.
What a world, man.
